Life of Matthew Parker (Strype, 1821)
Life of Matthew Parker (Strype, 1821) is John Strype's biography of Matthew Parker (1504–1575), Archbishop of Canterbury under Elizabeth I, first published 1711 and here transcribed from the Oxford Clarendon Press edition of 1821 (Vol. I).
Strype (1643–1737), himself an Anglican clergyman and antiquary, drew on Parker's own papers and correspondence. The work covers Parker's life from his Cambridge years through the Elizabethan Settlement, in three books, and remains a foundational source for the history of the English Reformation.
