Editorial notes

  • Edition separation. The two sections are in different editions and must never be merged into one text: the Preface is 1821, the Article I section is Burton 1877. Each section carries its own edition metadata, page references, and source documentation.
  • Preface status. The Preface "To the Reader" (1821 edition) is transcribed from the text layer only and is not scan-verified. It still needs scan verification, a second proofread, thumbnails, and link checks before publication. Two flagged readings and one unverified bibliographic item (the opening printed page number) remain in the draft.
  • Article I proofread. The Article I section (Burton 1877, printed pp. 1–45) completed a second proofread against 300 dpi renders: all 16 first-round flags resolved, and 32 marginal Scripture references for pp. 18–31 recovered and placed at their anchors.
  • Continuation. Article I runs to printed p. 122, where it closes and Article II begins on the same page. The continuation (printed pp. 45–122, in two further Project Canterbury files) is not transcribed yet.
  • Article I complete. Article I is now transcribed in full, printed pp. 1–122 (Burton 1877), and published on the Article I page with 65 source-page thumbnails. Three readings remain flagged in the text (single Greek words, pp. 60, 88, and 111), pending a higher-resolution scan or a second opinion. Note 19 on p. 122 is truncated in the scan (p. 123 is blank); its continuation belongs with the Article II transcription.
