Talk:The Church Fathers and the Ordination of Women
Research note
Research date: 24 October 2026. Tertullian’s On Baptism 17 and On the Veiling of Virgins 9; Chrysostom’s Homily 9 on First Timothy and Homilies 30–31 on Romans; and Apostolic Constitutions III.6, 9–11 and VIII.19–20, 28 were directly inspected in the established ANF/NPNF translations reproduced by New Advent. Epiphanius, Panarion 79.1–3, was inspected in the bilingual selections on Luke Dysinger’s site, which identifies Holl’s Greek edition. The English translation’s provenance is not fully documented on that page, so the draft paraphrases with section references rather than offering a supposedly newly verified critical quotation. The approximate dates identify historical periods and do not claim exact dates of composition for individual homilies.
Editorial note
This is a defined source-based survey, not an exhaustive inventory of patristic literature. The polemical reports of Thecla’s literary use and Collyridian ritual are attributed to the reporting authors; the groups’ own complete accounts are not independently available here. The article does not treat denunciation as a modern judgment of sacramental invalidity. It does not adopt derogatory anthropological generalizations found in some witnesses. Epiphanius 49, often cited concerning female episcopal titles, has not been independently inspected and is deliberately not used as evidence in this draft.
