Talk:The Priest as an Icon of Christ the Bridegroom
Research note
Research date: 24 October 2026. Ephesians 5, John 3, Mark 2, Revelation 19, 2 Corinthians 11, Genesis 1, Galatians 3, and Acts 1 were checked in the KJV. Inter insigniores 5 was inspected directly, including its express distinction between fittingness and demonstrative argument. Lewis’s essay was inspected in the AnglicanSources reproduction. Karen Strand Winslow’s critique was inspected on the CBE site; her name is given correctly in the article, despite the local retrieval filename initially using another surname. The Rochester Report was inspected for its recording of traditionalist submissions, not as a binding endorsement of their conclusions. The Ordinal’s priestly prayer and formula were inspected directly.
Editorial note
The draft does not claim a demonstrated universal patristic formulation of the Bridegroom argument. A fuller genealogy of sacramental representation would require more specialist monographs and critical editions. The text explicitly identifies a historical weakness in Lewis’s presentation concerning Mary and Pentecost rather than reproducing it uncritically. No conclusion about divine biological sex or women’s inferior representation of God is adopted. Whether nuptial fittingness establishes a constitutive requirement remains disputed.
