Saint Peter (born Shimon bar Yonah; 1 BC – AD 64/68), also known as Simon bar Jonah, Peter the Apostle, Simon Peter, Simeon, Simon, or Cephas, was one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus and one of the first leaders of the early Christian Church. He is and was considered by many to be the leader of the Apostles, or the first among equals. He is considered by tradition to have founded the sees of Rome and Antioch. He was crucified for preaching the Gospel under the tyranny of the Emperor Nero.

On the Calendar of Saints, he is commemorated on January 18.
